USPS Mailbox Installation Requirements
USPS regulations specify the location of mailboxes. The front of your Mail Boss should be set back from the edge of the road or curb by 6-8 inches.
Installation of the Mail Boss on an In-Ground Post
With a typical installation of the Mail Boss on an In-Ground Post, burying the post 12” in the ground will place the incoming mail slot within USPS specs.
Installation of the Mail Boss on a Surface Mount Post
With a typical installation of the Mail Boss on a Surface Mount Post, installing the surface mount on a curb or sidewalk 4-8” above the road surface will place the incoming mail slot within USPS specs.
The USPS delivery requirements state that a mailboxes’ point of entry be placed between 6″ to 8″ back from the street surface or curb and between 41″ to 45″ from the road surface.
The incoming mail slot of your Mail Boss must be 41-45” above the road surface. (By contrast, with unlocked mailboxes, the bottom of the mailbox must be 41-45” above the road surface.) Official USPS mailbox guidelines can be found here.
