Jan. 1:

• GOLD BAR, Washington: KOMO 4 – Thieves hit Gold Bar post office, steal mail from locked boxes; “Someone broke into the Gold Bar post office and pried open a number of locked mailboxes there, said Jim Wilson with the U.S. Postal Inspector’s office. Wilson wasn’t sure how many mailboxes had been broken into.”
• COVINGTON, KENTUCKY: RCNKY.com – Why Criminals Are Targeting Mailboxes in Northern Kentucky; “Some members of the group captured after stealing mail from the boxes in Covington said that they would make off with whatever they could get their hands on, Sanders said.”

• KING COUNTY, Washington: Kent Reporter – Woman pleads guilty to mail theft from throughout King County; “Bobbie Denise Catton and her cohorts stole large volumes of mail between March 2013 and January 2014 from homes and apartment complexes throughout King County, according to court records.”
• THOMPSON FALLS, Montana: KPAX.com – Storage unit break-ins, stolen mail reported in Sanders County; “Authorities also report that they’ve seen a recent spike in mail theft cases and stolen packages on rural routes.”

Jan. 7:

• NORTH HOLLYWOOD, California: ABC 7 – $10K reward for information on suspect in NoHo mail thefts; “Tampering or stealing mail is a federal offense. The U.S. Postal Inspection Service said this suspect may be responsible for multiple thefts in the area. The service is offering a $10,000 reward, but so far no leads have come up.”
• ANNAPOLIS, Maryland: Annapolis Patch – Two Teenagers Charged in Holiday Mail Thefts: The boys, from Annapolis and Arnold, were charged as juveniles for stealing Christmas cards in the Cape St. Claire area, say police; “Two teenagers have recently been charged with the theft of Christmas cards and other mail in the Cape St. Claire area, according to Anne Arundel County Police.”

• HIGHLAND, California: CBS Los Angeles – 2 Men Accused Of Forgery, Mail Theft Arrested In Highland; “The two men drove to a nearby shopping center, where they opened numerous pieces of mail, and stole checks, identification and personal information. Authorities said in about a ten minute period, Lemus and Lopez were able to steal at least seven checks, and altered one check by changing the recipient’s name from a utility company to Lopez’s name.”

• SONOMA COUNTY, California: Sonoma County Gazette – Stolen Mail – Stolen Identities in Sonoma County; “The women were discovered in large amounts of stolen mail belonging to up to 190 different potential victims during a routine traffic stop in November of 2014.”

• NEVADA, Missouri: Nevada Daily Mail – Man arrested for stealing mail from more than a dozen people; “A Nevada resident was arrested Friday afternoon by detectives with the Vernon County Sheriff’s Office after a warrant was issued for felony stealing involving theft of mail.”

• ANCHORAGE, Alaska: KTUU 2 – Feds indict 4 in Anchorage meth-for-mail theft ring; “Four Anchorage residents, including a ringleader allegedly known as “Superman,” are facing federal charges in a mail-theft ring which allegedly saw him trade methamphetamines for stolen mail.”
• MEMPHIS, Tennessee: Commercial Appeal – Police say checks were stolen from mailbox and written to thief; “The U.S. Postal Inspection Service and Memphis police are accusing a 54-year-old man named Materrial Byrd of writing stolen checks to himself and depositing them in a credit union.”

• BRENTWOOD, California: Contra Costa Times – Brentwood police calls Jan. 7-18; “Mail Theft — At 10:03 a.m., a person called police to report that they found a pile of mail on Foothill Drive, and that some packages had been open with contents missing. Mail Theft — At 10:06 a.m., Livermore police reported to Brentwood police that they had arrested two individuals for possession of stolen mail, and that some of the mail recovered was addressed to Brentwood residents. Brentwood police filed a report for investigative purposes.”
• ST. CLOUD, Minnesota: WJON – Police Report Several Mailbox Thefts; Several reports of stolen mail are coming into the St. Cloud Police Department. Police say based upon the time of year, it appears thieves are targeting W2 forms in an effort to file fraudulent tax returns to obtain someone else’s refund money.
• WALLA WALLA, Washington: Union-Bulletin – Woman pleads guilty in stolen car pursuit case; “Still pending against Gardner, of 53192 Ballou Road, Milton-Freewater, is a charge of mail theft, accusing her of stealing mail from various residents’ mailboxes in Walla Walla County on July 31.”

• CANELO, Arizona: The Weekly Bulletin – Canelo residence burglarized; mailboxes targeted; “A Canelo woman said for two days in a row she had been missing mail from her mailbox at the intersection of Membrillo Lane and State Route 82. The woman said she received mail on a daily basis and therefore something was obviously wrong.”
• WOODSIDE, California: Almanac News – Police calls; “Forgery and mail theft: A resident of Woodside Way told deputies that he was missing a monthly check, and that he’d learned that the check had been cashed early in December, but not by him. Estimated loss: $1,100. Jan. 8.”

• WATAUGA, Texas: The Dallas Morning News – Watauga couple sentenced for stealing mail; “A Watauga man and his girlfriend were sentenced to federal prison this week for stealing mail from residential mailboxes in Roanoke, Southlake, and Keller, the U.S. attorney’s office announced Thursday.”
• ROANOKE, Texas: Star-Telegram – Couple sentenced to prison for stealing mail; “An investigation began after residents started complaining that their mail was stolen. One person police that an American Express card was mailed to a Southlake residence, but it was never received, according to a news release.
