Mail Theft in Wheat Ridge, CO
Wheat Ridge Police Department warns residents “Mail and identity theft a growing and difficult problem”
Mail and identity theft is a problem of epidemic proportions that plagues cities, suburbs, and small towns alike. Even the pristine Wheat Ridge, Colorado (“Deep Roots, Short Commutes”) is not immune, and the authorities are taking notice.
The Wheat Ridge Police Department has categorized Mail Theft as a growing threat, citing a small number of very well organized groups as responsible for the increased theft of mail from unlocked residential boxes. These groups apparently steal mail at all times of the day and night, and are a cause of concern for Wheat Ridge residents.
To protect yourself from mail theft, the Wheat Ridge PD recommends the following precautions:
- Do not place outgoing checks in mailboxes
- Pick up your mail daily
- If you’re expecting checks and/or CCs in the mail, beware and notify your bank if they don’t come
- Monitor your credit card statements monthly
- Notify police department of suspicious activity
While these are all very good tips for preventing mail theft, the best defense against mail identity theft is a security mailbox like the Mail Boss locking mailbox. The Mail Boss is a postal fortress, and gives you peace of mind in knowing that your mail will be safe in your security mailbox until you retrieve it with your unique key. No more waiting nervously for checks to arrive or rushing home to get the mail!
