KTKA News reports mail theft on the rise, puts you at risk for ID theft
In Topeka, Kansas, mail theft is on the rise. Mail carriers are seeing a trend. Terry Cook, Postal Service Supervisor, explains "[Mail theives] are out there going through the mailboxes, taking what they want and dropping it off at other peoples' mailboxes giving the impression that the post office is misdelivering the mail."
Increasingly residents are finding their mail scattered along the street, or reported being "delivered" to neighbors' mailboxes. The Police Department advises if you have a mailbox to make sure its secure, because it is easy for someone to come over, open it up, and steal your identity.
The report shows that an apartment complex cluster box was recently opened with a crowbar. The thieves were easily able to take the mail from all of the community's residents. This highlights the importance of not only having a locking mailbox, but ensuring that your locking mailbox is truly secure, like the
